Hunter Lutz presents Principal with big check

On Saturday, November 19, 2022 the first ever CTEC 5K Trailblazer Trot and Mashed Potato Mile was held at Eastern View High School.  The goal was to raise scholarship money towards dual enrollment fees for students at Culpeper Technical Education Center (CTEC). The event raised more than $2,400.

Eastern View High School Senior Hunter Lutz brought the concept to fruition as part of his senior year capstone project for Mountain Vista Governor’s School. Lutz explained that students were given flexibility to make the project anything that they chose.

Lutz is a runner and participates in the Eastern View cross-country and track teams.   Choosing this project gave him the perfect opportunity to combine his passion for running with his desire to help others

CTEC principal Shaun Summerscales mentored Lutz through the process. Planning for the event began in May 2022.  Throughout the planning process, Lutz was able to garner many sponsorships from local businesses to help make the event a reality. Sponsorships were provided by: Cedar Mountain Stone, Chemung Contracting, Chrysler of Culpeper, Culpeper Business Women, Green Roost, Kash Imprints, and Moore and Foley, Inc.

Lutz hopes that this will become an annual event and would like to watch it grow and continue to give students financial assistance for dual enrollment fees at CTEC.

The next step in Lutz’s capstone is to form a committee to determine the allocation of the funds raised.
