Students and Teachers Presenting Large Check to Blue and Red Santa Project representatives

The Culpeper Technical Education Center (CTEC) chapter of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) held a Pie the Person Contest in December to raise money for the Blue and Red Project. CTEC students raised $500 for the cause as part of its fall service project.

CTEC students could donate money during NTHS school store hours towards the teacher of their choice. The teachers with the highest amount earned at the end of the fundraiser were pied in the face.

Participating CTEC staff included: HVAC instructor Matt Barton, Culinary instructor Jay Cohen, EMT instructor Stephanie Corbin, Construction instructor Ted DeLano, Cybersecurity instructor Jordan Macurak, and Principal Shaun Summerscales.

It was a two-way tie for the most money earned between Cohen and Macurak.

On December 21, Blue and Red Project President Steve Corbin and Secretary Kim Green were on hand to witness the pie event. NTHS advisors Barton, Corbin and Macurak, along with Summerscales and NTHS President Hunter Lutz presented the charity organization with its check.

The Blue and Red Project is a local charity organization that assists children in need throughout the year.

They have partnerships with local businesses, such as Walmart and Target and other service organizations such as the Culpeper Eagles to assist them with their goals.

In September, the Blue and Red Project sponsored local teens to assist with back to school clothing needs. During the first Saturday each December, the charity organization takes children and their families shopping for Christmas.

The $500 raised will aid four or five local children.
